Lagoon Saddle in Arthur’s Pass National Park, is part of the Southern Alps Mountain Range of New Zealand. High above the distant plains, the mountain tarns freeze over in winter and collect the snow melt each summer, ever dwarfed by the imposing peaks surrounding them. This was the view from just outside my tent on New Year's Day. What a way to start a new year!
